Living Free

LIVING FREE: Healing and Deliverance
Galatians 5:1; John 8:36

The Lord Jesus taught us to pray ‘deliver us from evil’ (Mat. 6:13).  You know you are under attack by evil when you are lacking or losing anything Jesus died to give you. Many believers live in bondage to habits and conditions they cannot get rid of. Even doctors and other specialists cannot say what it is.  Jesus, the last Adam (1 Cor. 15:45) came to restore all that the first Adam lost and to succeed in all the first failed (Acts 3:21).  He not only frees us from a sinful past but also frees us to be, have, know, and do God’s will (Eph 2:10, 1 Tim 3:16).

1. Free in which areas. Christ died for your deliverance in all areas of life (Luke 4:18), for example: *Body – to enjoy good health, *Soul – to enjoy inner peace, and soundness (3 John 1:2), *Spirit – to enjoy supernatural power and have dominion from daily trusting Christ as savior and lord, *Relationships – to enjoy healthy peaceful relationships, *Ministry/career – to make significant contribution to your generation and beyond (Mat. 4:19; 2 Tim. 2:2), *Wealth – to create and have more than sufficient (Jer. 17:7; Deut 8:18) and *Society – to enjoy peace, justice and prosperity.
2. Free from what.  The Lord wants you to live free from evil or the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) that result in effects that include sin, carnality, addictions, self centeredness, lusts,  ignorance, poverty, all sickness, infirmities, divorce, social strife, barrenness, tragedy/accident proneness, miscarriages, laziness, depression, despair, discouragement, suicide, mental confusion, passivity, emotional instability, uncontrollable emotions (e.g. temper, hatred), unending grief, irrational fear, worry, bitterness, negative thinking and speaking, procrastination, idolatry, powerless religion (1 Tim. 3:5), ungodly policies, ungodly laws, ungodly values, unbelief/doubt towards God and his word (Gal 5:19).  Persistence of any of these is a symptom of bondage that requires deliverance. If any of them follows a pattern such as in family line – the grand father was like that, so was the father now it is him – a curse needs to be broken. Evil spirits can possess or control the body of an individual or dominate a life area.  .
3. How to be free
a.       REFUSE to remain the same. Be willing/want to be set free. Make Jesus your hope (Acts 10:38; John 10:10; 12:31-32). Believe he is able to set you free (Isa. 61:3).
b.      Repent. Confess and repent from sin for self and family (Prov. 28:13; Eph.4:27; 1 John 1:9). Especially sins related to the bondage or curse e.g. shedding of blood (Gen 9:6; Deut 19:13). Make Jesus lord in every area.
c.       Reaffirm/Announce your faith and identity in Jesus Christ. Praise him for what he has done for you. (John 8:36; Gal. 3:13, 14; Prov. 26:2; Jer.17:5, 6; 2 Tim. 1:7; Rev. 12:11; Eph. 6:10; Isaiah 58:6). Speak scriptures about who you are and what you have in Christ.
d.      Renounce all covenants and association with the evil thing (by name). Speak out that you no longer want anything to do with it you have turned from it to Jesus. Do not be afraid (Luke 10:19). Throw away/burn the things from sangomas, occult, etc – aerials that give the enemy a foothold. Command the devil to go. See yourself delivered. Speak to disease/situations commanding them to go (1 Pet. 2:24; Mark 16:17; Jam. 4:7; Acts 10:38).  Cast evil spirits out. Prayer and fasting is helpful (Mark 9:29). Also, prayer of agreement and help from someone with special deliverance/healing gift helps.
e.       Receive and Maintain by faith. Pronounce your victory. E.g., Say ‘I receive my victory over…, in Jesus name.’ ‘Thank you Lord Jesus for setting me free from …. Or to …’ Then ongoing:  a) Dedicate your life to Jesus and live in obedience to God’s word (Deut. 28; Isa. 26:3; James 4:7). Increase in knowledge of God (Dan 11:32; John 8:32). Walk in the fullness of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:16). Know your authority and position in Jesus and learn to use your authority.  b) Live a disciplined life style – personal devotions, training, planning, prevention, building healthy relationships, physical exercises, wise choices, etc (Rom. 12:1-3) Deliverance will not give you discipline but without discipline you go back into bondage. Discipline must be learned. Be vigilant (1 Pet. 5:8). c) Forgive all those who offend you. Unforgiveness and bitterness give a foothold to the enemy. d) Honor your parents. Seek their blessing (Ex. 20:12). e) Give tithes and offerings (Mal. 3:8-10; Hag 1:9). f) Watch pronouncements you make and filter those by others. Words do not only convey meaning but power to bless or curse (Prov. 18:21).  g) Be accountable to someone. Secrecy is fertile ground for satan. h) Overcome curiosity of searching something new in the occult (satanic worship), horoscope, yoga, ancestral spirit appeasement, etc (Col. 1:19; Josh. 1:8).   i) Take the message of deliverance and hope to others who are bound (Eph 6:15).

We defeat the enemies of God on their own mountain top. Their mountain top is our valley.
