Message 17 January 2016 Stepping up
III # Carry Ons
But those who wait on the Lord Shall
renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They
shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).
It is God that girdeth me with
strength , and maketh my way perfect . He
maketh my feet like hinds feet, and setteth me upon my high places (Psalm
18:32,33).
I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me (Philippians 4:13)
To step up to the next level one has
to let go of some things. Equally important one needs to know what to keep or
acquire as resources for the next level. The resources to transition through
and with are what this message refers to as Carry ons. The resources for
elevation include commitment to the following Spiritual
disciplines for Power
- Praying Philippians 4:8 In everything pray and receive
peace.
- Planning, reflecting on progress and putting good work into pursuing your God
given goals.
- Standing
Ephesians 6: – Put on the whole armor
of God
- Salvation. Be sure of your new position in
Christ and authority in the name of Jesus. Stay under the covering of his blood
and covenant
- Righteousness – recognise your new identity and live worth of it. Pursue holiness
and seek righteousness living
- Truth – Philippians 3:13. Know God. Paul yearned, ‘That I might know him’.
- Faith – Hebrews 11:6. Believing God on
who he is and have said. Responding to the grace of God with faith. Praising
God at all times is the proof of faith. Praise brings elevation, God’s presence
and perspective.
- Spoken word put to practice. Doing the word Joshua 1:8.
- Sharing
the gospel. John 4:35; Acts 1:8. Look out to see the harvest that is ready. To
see opportunities to show and share Christ. Serve beyond the church walls or community to
touch non-believers and communities. Witness and serve outside church.
- Refilling Ephesians 5:16. Be continuously filled with the
Spirit. Walk in his grace and power.
- Connecting
with the body of believers. Hebrews
10:25. In the Psalms, David invited others to praise with him.
- Letting
go. To experience renewal something old
or outward must give way. Some old habit, perspective, people etc of the current level must be removed so that the new level can
come. Allow for pruning so that what remains can be invigorated and bear much
more fruit. Ill. All cells of the body are renewed every seven years.
- Helping and serving. Identify needs of others and do something
to bring solutions. Humble yourself. He will lift you up if you only....
- Lifting eyes to Jesus. Hebrews 12:1-2. When you lift your
eyes to him he will lift you up. Keep
focus on Jesus.
- Sowing. Mark 14 Over and above giving. The poor
widow was promoted to a status where her story should be told to all
generations. You determine the harvest by your levels of sowing. Do for others
what you would have them do for you.
Acts of obedience to God are spiritual seeds.
- Waiting Isaiah 40:31, Hebrews 6:11 Patiently trust God
to come through on his promises. In the end you will win.
To whom then will you liken Me, Or
to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy
One. Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who
brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of
His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing. Why do you say, O
Jacob, And speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the Lord , And my just claim
is passed over by my God”? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The
everlasting God, the Lord , The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither
faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the
weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the
youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, BUT… Isaiah 40: 25-31
Be ready to be transformed into the
image of Christ. Don’t just mark the Bible but be marked by it. Don’t just meet
with God but walk with him.
